For businesses today sites like LinkedIn promise business aid at a very smart cost. Explore the dynamics of LinkedIn to see how it can convert traffic into leads.

If they call themselves “World’s largest Professional Network”, they do it for a reason. They have a website sound enough to hook the serious ones and keep at bay the curious ones. Whether you are a consultant wanting to spread a word about your own services or a sales person searching for prospects LinkedIn should top your list of must-be-on social websites. You can be anyone, doing any kind of business but so long you wish to use online means to promote your product or propagate your brand, LinkedIn can prove very effective.

Some may argue LinkedIn is an add-on, which may never be missed by growing businesses. However, that is where the paradox lies. LinkedIn opens several channels of communications, which not only widen the reach but also convert potential clients into real time clients. Moreover, with the large number of Companies now looking for professionals and researching their backgrounds on the World-wide-web, having a good LinkedIn profile might provide you the edge you need to make a difference.

A Short Tutorial on Lead Generation Using LinkedIn

Use LinkedIn People to break ice with people who fall out of the direct circle. Expand more by exploring second or third connection’s circles. Make friends, get them to introduce you to people you are targeting and take your businesses to them.

Be part of groups that discuss what interests your customers. Learn about the trends in the market, keep yourself updated, participate in discussions and make connections in no time.

If one wishes to share the on goings in your company through a blogpost, LinkedIn has provisions for that. Through LinkedIn Applications share the enriching business book currently read. LinkedIn also allows to setup simple polls to gather opinions on products or services marketed.

LinkedIn like Google lets businesses do direct marketing. Whatever the size of business, create simple, effective ads that attract click-throughs.

Lastly keep the profile on LinkedIn updated regularly. Download the mobile application and keep it up-to-date on the go. The whole point of being on LinkedIn is to create a wide network of professional people who might at some point or so help business grow.

Apart from the above, make sure that your integration with other Social Media accounts like Twitter do not malign your credibility and candidature. Be wary of the fact that updates and communication on these additional accounts also allows the viewers to know your opinions in a better way.

Following the above steps religiously will not only allow you to gain more attention to your LinkedIn profile, but also ensure that you get all the secondary benefits like better networking, connections and an overall wider reach.

With the social media becoming rampant in the lives of many people around the globe, it is extremely important to leverage this new technology effectively. Moreover, since this method involves the prospective customers from getting an early feedback not only from other people, but also from some people they know or trust, this method of marketing is becoming increasingly successful as compared to the traditional forms of marketing. Following are some of the things that you should consider for a cost-effective yet successful campaign.

Leverage the Social Networks

Most of the social network websites provide different types of tools that allow you to reach out to your target audience. This can be in form of Communities, Fan pages, Groups and Landing pages among other titles, but what all of these allow is for you to reach out to prospective clients, and for people to cite their views and opinions.

Since most of the people who have already joined the particular group are interested in it, this way of marketing helps in getting targeted audience easily. Apart from this, since a prospective client will trust the word of a fellow social-networker he is connected to much more than any advertisement or marketing scheme, this way of marketing is extremely effective.

Another huge way to reach out to prospective clients is by means of written content that speaks to them. There are various article directories, microsites and blogs, which provide information about the related topics and expert opinions. It is also important to look at options like getting popular writers to guest-blog for you, or that you post your articles on famous blogs, since this is how you can reach out to followers of that particular writer or blog.

Many people prefer to visit forums on their specific areas of interest or to find the advice of fellow members, and so it is equally useful if you find the good forums in the area of your interest, and provide good posts and discussions on them. Blog commenting, if done properly is yet another way to build some credibility and reach out to prospects.

Directory Submissions, Link Building and Other Networking

Once you are done with the article posting, you can also look at ways to improve backlinks and get more traffic by means of social bookmarking, RSS feeds and directory submissions. These steps help in improving your search engine ranks, thus improving your overall residual traffic. While this method is slightly less personalized as compared to the other options, the conversion chances are fewer, but it still is an extremely effective way to market your products.

Overall, the social media does provide a variety of ways in which you can market your products, however, you need to smartly decide which of the campaigns will result in better return-over-investment. Thankfully, since most of the social media marketing options are scalable to both the scope and the demographics, it is very easy to reach out to the target audience effectively.

Youtube presents markters with millions of people as target audience. The best part is, you don't even need to pay Youtube/Google to advertise your product. But you need to be careful about how you deliver your message. Done incorrectly, it can leave a bad taste in viewers' mouths.

Apart from Twitter and Facebook, Youtube is probably the most popular medium for marketing. There are thousands of ebooks available on discussion forums on Youtube marketing, leading to thousands of beginners flocking to the site in the hope of making a penny. But they end up making the same mistakes they make on other social media sites. If you are serious about making anything from your Youtube campaigns, here are a few tips.

Forget spam comments

“Ohhh this is soooo funnnieeee hahahaha. See my video also HERE!” – Typical spam comment on Youtube videos

If your idea of Youtube marketing is to visit hundreds of videos and leave a comment like the one above, you might as well log off and get a job at your local McDonalds. It just doesn’t work. If you think your video is really related to the current video and will serve to enhance its value, add a video response. Do not use the feature if your video is totally unrelated.

Annotations are good, but don’t make people turn them off

People don’t really mind annotations for the most part. What annoys them is when they occupy a good chunk of the display area. If the annotations interfere with their viewing experience, they will turn them off. A good idea is to add them at the beginning and end of videos, before anything interesting has begun. If you keep them in between make sure they are related to the scene that is playing. That way you inform the users rather than distract them. Whatever you do, your annotations shouldn’t last the entire length of the video unless absolutely necessary. Also, keep them short and precise. You don’t need to add too much fluff to your messages in annotations. Lastly, try to make them the transparent sort, which are less irritating than those with a colored background. That way, you can get the most out of your annotations.

Use the ‘More Info’ box well

Make optimum use of the ‘more info’ box. If you have a link, try to keep it at the beginning, so that users see it even without expanding the box. Add relevant information in the box and do not make it look spammy. If you have added a music video, adding lyrics in the box is a good way to keep readers on that screen instead of heading off to a lyrics site. Giving users additional information makes them like you!

Don’t lie to users in your videos

If yours is a straightforward marketing video, make it informational rather than a sales pitch. Provide users with statistics rather than exaggerated claims. Above all, make it look professional. Get some real faces in there rather than simply text and images. Get some video reviews and combine them with your video. Users are more likely to be impressed by a well made video with visual effects and real people. And with the amount of competition on Youtube these days, you can’t afford to upload anything by the best.

These simple tips should help you leave amateur Youtube marketers eating your dust. As a final note, remember to make your video light hearted and, if possible, funny. Give users a reason to share the video with their friends.

Sharing links on Twitter, driving traffic from Facebook and promoting businesses using Foursqaure are all the rage these days. These seem to be working well for the most part. But we still see hordes of complaints and rants from beginners, all saying that social media simply isn’t working for them. If you are among them, we list four very simple, and seemingly obvious, reasons why marketing via social media isn’t working for you.

You are a perfectionist

This works great when you are heading a multi-million dollar company, or trying to land a date with the cute girl in your class. But with the intense competition online, being a perfectionist is only going to work against you.

Perfectionists think, “I will create a Twitter account today and won’t post any link till I win X number of followers.” They either never reach their target number or end up ambitiously stretching the number further. By the time they post their first link and drive their first visitor they will have lost hundreds, if not thousands, of potential earned dollars.

You miss the trees for the woods

You are literally turning the famous aphorism on its head and missing out smaller details for the bigger picture. For you, social media is synonymous and inseparable from Twitter and Facebook. You forget that these are just two trees in the woods, albeit two very popular ones. The competition on these sites is so intense that beginners find it tough to find a foothold quickly.

So while you try to gain a good following on these sites, look out for smaller sites, especially ones which are country-specific like ibibo.com. These will often be more effective.

You spend too much time on ‘research’

This is a trait similar to that of a perfectionist, with the minor difference that perfections, provided they don’t run out of patience, still manage to be pretty successful over a longer term. This category of marketers, though, has plenty of patience. So much so that they are ready to spend months ‘learning’ about marketing, dreaming of one fine day when they will be able to wake up, go online and drive thousands of sales using the methods they learned over the past months. Most of them are just pure lazy and keep procrastinating work. Others feel they still have some education left! Either ways, by the time they do manage to get down to work, if ever, the methods they learned have become obsolete.

You are stuck in the box

Almost every person who successfully manages to implement a basic method that makes them a few dollars ends up making an e-book and selling it to other beginners. This category of people includes people who follow the methods listed in the books to a T, refusing to innovate on their own. With thousands of marketers, if we can call them that, using the same methods on the same sites, the profits get distribute. It’s simple arithmetic. If you want more than your share of profits, you have to learn to innovate and come up with newer methods on your own.

Here’s a final tip: Don’t stop pursuing a method just because it didn’t work in the first week. Most strategies require more than a month to show results. And once you achieve the desired results, don’t package them in an e-book and sell the method.
